Experience That Connects Research With Practice

The Dr Layla Institute for Educational Excellence was founded on the principle that sustainable educational improvement is achieved when research, professional expertise and the realities of practice are brought together with purpose.

Dr Layla Hannah Rajah brings over three decades of experience across educational leadership, teaching and learning, curriculum development, professional learning and whole-school improvement, complemented by expertise in school inspection, quality assurance, internal review and evidence-informed evaluation.

Her work is informed by experience across the UK and UAE educational landscapes, providing a strong understanding of international education and the importance of interpreting global research and educational frameworks within their cultural and institutional contexts. This is particularly relevant within the GCC, where international curricula, diverse school communities and national educational priorities intersect.

As an educational leader, researcher and Doctor of Education, Dr Rajah's expertise spans effective pedagogy, leadership and organisational development, teacher professional learning, curriculum and assessment, inclusion, culturally responsive practice, student engagement and the development of high-performing school cultures.

Central to her approach is the translation of research into practice. Rather than viewing research, leadership and classroom practice as separate domains, the Institute examines how they interact to influence the quality of teaching, the professional capacity of educators and, ultimately, outcomes for learners.

This combination of academic scholarship, leadership experience and first-hand knowledge of school improvement enables the Institute to work alongside schools and educational leaders with both intellectual rigour and practical understanding — supporting informed decision-making, strengthening professional practice and building the capacity for sustainable improvement.
