Meet Haroon Javaid-Rajah

Literacy & Educational Research Specialist

Research, Literacy & Educational Excellence

Mr Haroon Javaid-Rajah brings together doctoral research, educational leadership and assessment expertise with a lifelong commitment to reading and writing. His work is driven by a compelling question: how can schools better recognise, develop and challenge every student’s literacy potential?

His doctoral research investigates boys’ literacy and differences in achievement between boys and girls, drawing on international and school-level evidence, including PIRLS, PISA, TIMSS, MAP and internal assessment data. He translates patterns in attainment into practical, evidence-informed strategies that schools can implement and evaluate.

Working across British, American and international school contexts, Haroon supports schools to evaluate literacy provision from the Foundation and Primary Years through to Middle and Senior School. He identifies gaps in reading, writing and communication, analyses student performance and engagement, and develops targeted Literacy Improvement Strategies and Action Plans across subjects and phases.

Haroon holds an MSc in Leadership & Management, a PGCE and a BSc in Psychology, alongside specialist English training. His professional focus has personal roots: inspired partly by Harry Potter, he was an avid reader from childhood and became a published author at 16.

His own experience as a highly able learner also shaped his thinking. Periods of disengagement and being misunderstood when conventional measures did not reflect his capability sparked a lasting interest in how schools recognise potential, respond to individual needs and provide appropriate challenge.

Literacy is not confined to the English classroom. It is a whole-school responsibility — and a foundation for learning, confidence and achievement.

Today, Haroon brings that experience and research together in a clear conviction: every student deserves opportunities to develop their literacy, build confidence and demonstrate what they are capable of achieving.
